Fashion

Me trying to explain to Danny what Bermuda shorts are after telling him I wanted a pair:
"Um they're shorter than capris, usually hitting the knee.  They're really popular right now!"

Danny: "Are they made from triangles?"

Yeah, it's 93°F right now, Ohio finally got it. Record high temperatures for the beginning of June and it's been like this for the past 3 days. It's so hot the air conditioners can't keep up. One great thing about having a dog is you can give them ice cream cones to cool them down (vanilla, not chocolate!). I swear, Meatball eats ice cream cones like a human as demonstrated by this mosiac. He licks the top and bites around the cone evenly. Now wouldn't you expect a dog to chomp the cone whole? How does he know how to eat it like that?

My homemade B-Day dinner

For my birthday, in lieu of going to a restaurant, I requested that Danny make me homemade ravioli.  His specialty is mushroom and goat cheese.

Sorry for the shadows, I sucked at taking pictures that day.  I was too excited to be artistic.

The finished product:

Yummy!  Me eating awesome food in my favorite Banana republic sweater.  Danny even paired this dish with wine, Evolution from Sokol Blosser Winery.  It was perfect, of course!  Great job!

Only I would do this

I left my workout pass at an ice cream store.  Rita's Italian Ice and Custard to be exact, where I've professed my love before here.  I was in a panic yesterday morning, emptying my purse looking for my workout pass and getting angry at myself because I never lose things.  Then I had a vision in my head of me leaving the pass on the counter to pay for mine and Danny's custards and never putting it back.  It was slightly embarrassing when I picked it up on my lunch break, but I joked that I should be working out and then I would know where my pass was.  The lady asked me if I wanted to donate a $1 to Alex's Lemonade Stand that benefits kids with cancer and I said sure.  I never usually donate but I've been hearing about this charity everywhere and it's really a great cause.  I'll end with some pics of my fave, gelati make with Alex's Lemonade flavored Italian ice.  I don't know if it comes through in the last picture, but the sandwich board sign they had outside was HORRIBLY pixelated.  As a graphic designer, this infuriates me that the printer would even let this go through.

You can cure anything with Wonton Soup!

Last Wednesday I got sick with a really bad cold (sore throat and fever) and have been taking it easy ever since.  I'm still not 100% better.  Danny got me some wonton soup from a Chinese restaurant and crumbled plain white rice in the broth to help me feel better.  I never tried that before and it was really good as well as soothing!

Ironically, the same day I'm almost cured by Chinese food, I get an email from the library telling me a book I ordered, The Fortune Cookie Chronicles was in!  I ordered that book 3 months ago after reading a review in The Plain Dealer's Sunday book section.  Once I was well enough to get the book in my possession, I spent the entire weekend reading it and could not put it down!  Each chapter is a little vignette explaining the mysteries of American Chinese food because of the author's extensive research. Jennifer 8. Lee (she added the numeral 8 as her middle name because it is similar to the Chinese symbol for prosperity and good luck) speaks fluent Mandarin and was able to go to the town where General Tso hails from, recalls the history of chinese takeout boxes, and even goes into subjects as deep as human smuggling of Chinese immigrants. Each time I got to a new chapter I was pleasantly surprised by what I learned about how Americanized Chinese food really is.  Also, you gotta love an author with a blog.

My Birthday Week!

My favorite holiday of the year is tomorrow - my B-day!  I have some good things planned with my lovely friends which I will talk about soon.  As for this past weekend, I had a wonderful day on Saturday dozing off with Meatball on the couch while watching Bob Ross.

His voice is so soothing, it lulls me to sleep!  And I want to pet his afro. What I did watch reminded me that I have to draw or paint something.  It's been two years since I touched an art supply and my art college education is going to slip away if I don't practice soon.  My action-packed, 4 wedding summer started with the first bridal shower on Sunday.  I gave her this off her registry,

Pyrex Prepware 13-pc. Set

which I secretly coveted for myself. One down, 3 more showers to go, along with bachelorette parties and the actual weddings. Oh boy.
