I'm being brainwashed by jewelry!!!

Lately I've been inundated with jewelry parties! You go to one, and they offer you free jewelry if you host your own party at your house. So given the choice between buying the jewelry at full price and getting it for free, who wouldn't host a party? It's like a crazy pyramid sceme, with the women who host the parties getting all the benefits, and the people invited feeling obligated to buy. The two I've been to within the past week are Lia Sophia and Premier Designs. Lia Sophia is a bit more expensive and brag that celebrities wear their pricey "red carpet collection". Premier Designs had a wider selection of jewelry as well as religious pieces. And yes, I did buy jewelry at the two parties I've been to so far. I tell myself I'm just going to go look and end up whipping out my checkbook. I have one more next week that a cousin is hosting. I hope after that I can slowly back away from this cult and say no to any more invitations.

Sad day in desert land

Today I used my last gift card for Rita's Italian Ices . So sad that I won't be going as often now that I actually have to pay! It's such a simple concept - they mix homemade Italian ices with creamy frozen custard. If you get custard layered on the Italian ice it's called a Gelati. A Milkshake like blend of ice and custard is a Misto and a Blizzardesque blend of ice, custard and cookies is a Blendini. Basically it's all the same stuff mixed in different ways. The vanilla creamy custard with the more watery Italian ices is what makes it so great together. I've had all three and still my favorite is lemonade italian ice with vanilla custard in a Gelati. I'm a traditionalist when it comes to Italian ice. The only downside is that they don't make all the flavors every day so lemonade might not be there every time. For all of you who love Pinkberry, come to the Midwest and try Rita's, it's better! (I've tried both)

Boots

Yesterday I was stuck in rush hour traffic on my way home that keeps getting worse every day. To avoid the risk of having a nervous breakdown because I was going 2 mph, I got out of the single lane of traffic and got gas and went to Target. For not even planning to go there, I ended up spending $48.73! I got a softball mitt for my attempt to play in a co-ed softball league. (That will be a later post). I also was in the market for foundation because I was scraping the sides of my old clinique foundation that I was never really happy with. At Target, I discovered they now carry the Boots line of cosmetics. Boots is a British drug store that I actually visited when I went to England in high school. I bought the Boots Botanics Fresh Faced Tinted Moisturizer to use in place of foundation in Almond. I wanted something lighter on my face for summer. I used it this morning and it is very light and the color blends perfectly! It doesn't do much to cover pimples, but the powder and concealer took care of that just fine. New makeup makes me happy!

Casper

I stumbled upon dogeachday.com today and the story about Casper literally made me well up with tears. He passed away in September 2006 and the owner writes a tribute to him. What touched me about it was the fact that they fed Casper two cheeseburgers as his last meal. The site has beautiful drawings of dogs as well.

Intervention

For some reason I am obsessed with this show. They tell the addicts they are doing a documentary on addiction and then stage an intervention by catching the addicts off guard. Usually it's an ultimatum that either the addict attend rehab or they will disown them. The best shows are when the addicts figure out that they're going to have an intervention because they've seen the show. How people can get addicted to anything fascinates me, especially crystal meth which has horrendous side effects. I think I need an intervention to stop me from watching all these train wrecks!

On a side note I worked non-stop for 5 hours tonight waitressing and all I made was $50.00. I think I just got incredibally cheap tippers because I've made $70.00 working that same shift. Oh well, it's $50.00 I didn't have so I'll take it.

Prima Donna Dog

Meatball has been a wreck all week biting at his butt so I took him to the vet today. While I was there I figured I'd have them do the yearly shots and rabies vacc. It turns out he had a staph infection on his tummy, an ear infection and needed his anal glands squeezed. I walked out of there paying $192! The vet told me he would be high maintenance for the rest of his life with skin and ear problems. Leave it to me to buy a high maintenance dog! I've probably been the happiest I've ever been having him in my life though so it's all worth it.
